Children’s Library Birthday Party – Celebrating 100 Years Young!

February 26, 2010 at 9:16 am | Posted in Children's, City Library, Events, Free Event, Library_News, New Zealand, Recent Updates, Suggestions, Website | Leave a comment

Dunedin City Library is throwing a HUGE 100th Birthday Party for the Children’s Library on Saturday 13 March, and everyone is invited!

Fun activities and a host of talented children’s authors, illustrators and performers have been sourced from Dunedin and Otago to bring a very special programme that the whole family can enjoy for free!

Otago authors, Kyle Mewburn (Kiss! Kiss! Yuck! Yuck!) and Elizabeth Pulford (Can’t Catch Me) will perform story readings and talk about their best loved work; while local illustrator Robyn Belton (Herbert the Brave Sea Dog) will demonstrate how she brings her unforgettable characters to life.

Meanwhile, magician, Jonathan Usher will ‘wow’ young and old alike. Musicians, Kat Ana Fiddle will have everyone dancing and actor, Danny Still will give children a hilarious taste of bygone school life as the ‘Hairy Scary Headmaster’.

Memories can be stored in our Memory Bank and relived on YouTube, old fashioned photographs will be snapped and Geronimo will be on hand for free hugs.

The celebrations will continue through Sunday at the Otago Settlers Museum, where children can climb into the ships bunks of the Across the Ocean Waves exhibit and listen to a special story session; while the Dunedin Public Art Gallery will host a fantastic illuminated lettering workshop for children in association with their stunning Beloved exhibition.
