Dunedin Public Libraries has celebrated NZ Music Month in May since 2005.

This year, while at the Library in May, visitors could enter a competition to win either a COWAN D2 MP3 Player, courtesy of Jonathan’s Sound and Vision, or some dunedinmusic.com CDs.
All that was required was to simply tell the Library your favourite New Zealand musician or group and go into the draw to win. There were over 500 entries in the competition and the lucky winner of the major prize was 10 year-old Tayla Burt, shown here receiving her MP3 player from Anne-Maree Wigley, Mosgiel Librarian while Liz Knowles, Marketing Coordinator, looks on.

Wise Women – 2007 NZ Music Month performance

These wise women enjoy life largely because they are old enough to make mistakes without shrinking. Their instrument, the folk harp, is extraordinarily kind and expansive. A misplayed note seldom sounds worse than a quiet plunk, which the following plinks will resolve. Even the simplest melodies radiate calmness.

The Wise Women have performed at rest homes, schools and cultural celebrations throughout Dunedin. Over Christmas they play carols for passers by as they collect for the SPCA. Several of their original compositions have been published in a collection of scores entitled Our Music for the Harp.
