Robert Long Returns to City Library for Repeat Performance

The overwhelming success of Robert Long’s Author Talk at the City Library last week has prompted a surprise return for the man, who lives in relative isolation with his wife and two teenage children, two days walk from Haast.

Almost 300 people turned up in the City Library last Thursday to listen to Robert’s story, despite there only being 150 seats available, and his book A Life on Gorge River rapidly sold out. For those fortunate enough to grab a space, the evening proffered an enthralling insight into a lifestyle that few will ever experience or fully comprehend.

Now, for those that missed out, Robert and his family have agreed to come back to Dunedin City Library on Monday 21 June after engagements in Wanaka and Te Anau, before finally returning to their home on Gorge River. Marketing Coordinator, Lynette Hartgill explains:

Over the weekend we have offered ticketed seats to those who were on our RSVP list for Thursday. It was hard to turn away so many eager people, so it made sense to ask if he could come back. We are thrilled that he has agreed!’

Tickets are now available to the public. Book your seat by contacting: (03) 474 3690 or library@dcc.govt.nz. Tickets can be collected from the Ground Floor Information Desk in the City Library.

Copies of A Life On Gorge River: New Zealand’s Remotest Family will be available to purchase. Cash or credit only.
