9780670070fezThis bright little book (a good size to take traveling) tells the story of Suzanna’s purchase and restoration of an old riad (courtyard house) in the walled city of Fez.

She and her partner Sandy insisted on using traditional materials and designs, as well as local labour; they learned French and d-Darija (Moroccan colloquial Arabic), and made local friends.

She’s a journalist at home and writes in a lively, readable style.

The book is rich in information but it doesn’t overwhelm the story.

Highly recommended!
