From its earliest days, Dunedin Public Library has been one of New Zealand’s most innovative, comprehensive and respected public libraries. Find out about some of the people whose dedication, hard work and expertise helped to make it that way.

  • Archie Dunningham (1907-1996) was City Librarian from 1933 to 1960.
  • A H Reed (1875-1975) publisher, writer, long-distance walker, and the donor of important collections to the Library.
  • Dorothy Neal White (1915-1995), was our first Children’s Librarian.
