Opshop – You Are Here

If you listened to Opshop’s latest album, “Second Hand Planet”, and are expecting their first album to be along the same lines you will be surprised.  I was – pleasantly!

This is a lot less commercial and, in fact, a lot more mellow and relaxed than the later album.

From the first notes of “Up Behind The Sun”, I was hooked.  Opshop has an individual sound, that shines through more on this album than any other.

The lyrics are clear and interesting, the tunes are nice but not too catchy and the vocals are identifiably Opshop.

The later album may have had more commercial success and been overplayed on radio stations and television nationwide, but the simple nature of this album outweighs it all in my mind.

I rate it highly – but if you want to make up your own mind, check it out on the library catalogue
