From a record 500 entries, ten nominees have now been short-listed for the 2008 edition of NZ Bestseller “The Six Pack.” Online public voting to decide on a winner is now underway.

Register to vote on line for the readers choice in this years Six Pack. Not only do you get the chance to see your favourite piece of writing in print, but you’ll go in the draw to win $200 worth of Booksellers NZ Book tokens to buy your favourite books for a month long celebration of NZ literature.

Excerpts from the anonymous short-listed works have been uploaded to the NZ Book Month website

There’s been a great selection for the judges to choose from; however there can only be six winners – five of which are decided by the celebrity judges involved this year, including “TVNZ Breakfast” weather reporter Tamati Coffey and previous Six Pack winner David Armstrong, then one by you, the public.

“We each were given the same 30 stories without knowledge of the authors” said one of the short-list judges. “About half the top ranked stories were well supported by the grading panel but the other half generated a good debate about audience, fiction vs. non-fiction, yarns vs. literary form, plot or not, cultural factors, etc and it took some hours to arrive at the top ten finalists.”

Project Director Michele Powles was also taken aback with the breadth of talent who submitted their work for consideration by the judges, panel and public.

“This year’s long list gave the short listing judges plenty to think about. The NZ Book Month team would like to thank everyone who entered and congratulate all of those who reached the final shortlist of ten.” says Powles.

Now it’s your turn to judge! Excerpts from the top ten are now  live on the NZ Book Month website.
