I took this book to read on a recent plane journey and while it certainly served to absorb the flying time it is a very emotive and tear provoking story!

The story is translated from the Dutch language and told from a male perspective of his wife’s journey from the initial diagnosis of breast cancer through to her death.

Dan and Carman are a young financially well off couple successful in their respective businesses and parents to one year old Luna.

They enjoy a good life with friend’s parties and material wealth until Carmen’s diagnosis of breast cancer changes their lives to one of hospitals doctors and agonising treatment.

While Dan is a supportive loving partner he indulges in selfish guilt ridden relationships during his wife’s illness.

His vivid descriptions of his partner’s health and body as the disease and treatment ravage her body is forthright and open.

This is a story of a relationship. At times it is funny then heart breaking but ultimately is an appreciation of love and life.

I enjoyed the song excerpts which head each chapter and provide further thought and emotion to an intense story.

This is as written on the cover of the book an ‘honest love story’.
