Special Access Talks to Community
April 18, 2007 at 10:05 am | In Bookbus, Home Services | No CommentsToday Fiona, from the Bookbus, and Debbie, from Special Access are giving another talk at the Maybank Group at Ross Home to give an overview of the services each section provides.
The Maybank group is made up of residents who are still living independently but who may be isolated from friends or family. They meet once a week at Ross Home, where meals, entertainment and socialising are available.
Our Special Access team visits all prospective customers to determine their likes and dislikes and to learn a little of the person’s character which assists immensely when selecting specifically for them. If you would like us to visit your club,
organisation or residential care facility please let us know.

Taking the Library into the Community
April 16, 2007 at 10:21 am | In Bookbus, Home Services, The Word | No CommentsStaff at Dunedin Public Libraries frequently take our services out
into the community to meet the needs of customers unable to visit
a library or a Bookbus, or to promote our services to people who
are keen to know what the library can offer them.
For people who are housebound we offer a home delivery service,
using a large team of volunteer couriers to deliver items especially
chosen to meet individual needs. Our Special Access team visits all
prospective customers to determine their likes and dislikes and to
learn a little of the person’s character which assists immensely when
selecting specifically for them. If you would like us to visit your club,
organisation or residential care facility please let us know. Often
people struggle to support the reading needs of their housebound
relatives and friends, unaware of the service that we can offer.

Spanish month at Leslie Groves Hospital
March 5, 2007 at 9:52 am | In Home Services | No CommentsMarch is Spanish month at Leslie Groves Hospital and as part of the Special Access monthly delivery service to the hospital specific items on Spain will be included.
Lesley Cuthbertson, Diversional Therapist requested the DPL’s help with this theme, and picture books, that include Spanish costume, architecture, customs, food, and music were added to Leslie Groves normal delivery.
Guided by a simple Spanish phrase book, Lesley will replace signage in common areas at the hospital with its Spanish translation. Residents will have fun dressing up Spanish style, communicating in simple Spanish and making music with hand-crafted castanets, to the beat of the various Spanish CDs provided by Special Access.
This is an example of how Rest home deliveries by Special Access can be tailored to meet specific needs.
