Robert Scott at City Library for NZ Music Month

Robert Scott, well known local artist and member of many successful NZ bands including The Clean and The Bats came along to the City Library to perform as part of New Zealand Music Month.

The audience was treated to a mix of songs from Robert, all of which were well received by the appreciative crowd.

NZ Post Book AwardsThe New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children and Young Adults reward and recognise authors and illustrators contributing to New Zealand literature for children and young adults.

Twenty great books were short listed in February this year, with the announcement of the overall winners for this annual event happening on Wednesday 21 May at 6pm.

Many celebrations are held throughout New Zealand to observe these awards and Dunedin Public Libraries are proud to be associated, partnering with the University Bookshop, to bring you a programme to be proud of - we hope to see you there!

Opening Event:

Come celebrate the opening of New Zealand Post Book Awards and meet our special guest award winning author Kyle Mewburn, Author of Kiss! Kiss! Yuck! Yuck!. Kyle will be launching his latest children’s picture book, Duck’s Stuck.

Last week the library enjoyed musical performances from a number of artists including the DCC Roopu Waiata, Delgirl, Bev Kaye, Dunedin Harmony Chorus and Peter Weatherall.

Peter performs next at Waikouaiti library this Wednesday May 7th from 1.30pm while acoustic duo, Leo LaDell & Paul Southworth - better known as ‘The Resonators’ will perform at Port Chalmers Library on Thursday May 8th from 7.00pm

We’re underway and there’s some great performances at your library this Friday

City Library

  • 12 noon - DCC Roopu Waiata - Waiata and waiata a ringa from the DCC Roopu Waiata open this years Music Month performances
  • 12.30pm - Delgirl - A three piece self confessed alt-country act. Double baa, guitar, percussion, trumpet and ukulele all get a look-in.

Mosgiel Library

  • 2.00pm - Bev Kaye - Bev will be playing musical sounds on the piano keyboard at the official opening of the Mosgiel Library Music Room

NHNZ Film Screening - Animal Musicians

Bellowing alligators and howling lemurs may seem unlikely musicians, but they play important parts in a symphony that uses only animal calls. British composer Nick Glennie-Smith collects performances from a variety of fascinating instrumentalists and vocalists, including rattlesnakes, baby monkeys and even a fish that hums.
