Dunedin Public Libraries Centenary

Join us in celebrating!

2008 is Dunedin Public Libraries’ Centenary, and we’re planning an exciting programme of events that will demonstrate how far we’ve come in our 100 years, and how much we’re looking forward to our next century of innovation, challenge, and possibility.

Our Scottish forefathers brought with them their love of education and their values of intellectual inquiry and the free interchange of ideas.

For a century Dunedin Public Libraries has collected, preserved, and made available, through words and images, the best of New Zealand and the best of the world.

We’ve acted as Dunedin’s gateway to the world of knowledge, promoted literacy and supported the city’s educational, artistic and economic progress.

So we have much to celebrate, and we hope that you will celebrate with us!

As the year unfolds, watch for special displays and exhibitions, and an exciting programme of events planned for the later months.

Highlights will include a staff reunion in October, coinciding with the launch of our centennial history which has been specially written by Mary Ronnie – the person who knows us best – and a day of special celebration on 2 December, 100 years to the day after the opening to the public of the original Carnegie building.

Keep watching our website for further news.
